How Vintage Toys Out-perform Modern Toys
Many top toy news sources say that classic toys are making a come-back. This trend is surprising, considering what a big business it has become to market toys from popular movies. What do classic toys have to offer that is different than modern toys?
The first difference is that classic toys are made with sustainable materials. These time-honored materials include wood, metal, leather, and paints made from vegetable dyes. Another distinction is the durability of classic toys. In fact, many of yesterday’s toys are today’s heirlooms! In the past, children were just as tough on toys as they are today, only back then the toys could handle the abuse.
However, the biggest distinction between classic toys and modern toys is that classic toys were made to engage their curiousity. In contrast, modern toys mostly function to entertain kids. Children’s intellectual development suffers from this modern trend, even though preschool teachers and babysitters are not complaining.
In generations past, classic toys helped children tap into their own vast wealth of imagination. Not only that, but yesterday’s toys were also more active, helping kids let off some steam. How unlike most modern toys, which are made for children to sit around and watch something blink or glow!
Hopefully these reasons will convince some parents and educators to invest in classic toys for their children. Although classic toys can sometimes cost more on the shelf than modern, gimmick toys based on the latest cartoon movie, it guaranteed they will last longer at home.
